How to Fish in the Kayak?

Nowadays, more and more people want to have a try of kayak fishing, because it has no limitation of the spot, you don’t have to stand on the shore and waiting for the fish to have a bite. In other words, you can find the fish actively and catch them. At the same time, kayak fishing provides you a good chance to be close to the nature: drive your boat on the sea, lake or the river, you will find some beautiful scenery you’ve never seen.

But actually speaking,  kayak fishing is different from other fishing forms, if you know nothing about how to fish in the kayak, what you can do on the kayak is just see the beautiful scenery. Today, we will tell you some tips about the kayak fishing.

1. Learn to customize your kayak

Before fishing, you should learn how to choose the kayak and how to drive it. The key to successful and enjoyable kayak angling is to ensure that your kayak is outfitted with the right equipment to achieve a good balance between comfort and functionality. At the same time, remember to keep fishing tackles, pliers, a landing net, water and other important items within easy reach.

  2. Learn to choose the right fishing tackles

Buy the braid lines: Thin, strong, non-stretch braid fishing lines are ideal for kayak fishing. Not only do they allow the angler cast further and put more action into his lures, they allow the use of lighter fishing sinkers when baitfishing.
At the same time, give yourself a rod’s length of line.  Winding in too much line only gives you more to do when you hook a fish or have to remove weeds from your line. Giving yourself a rod’s length of line means that you can grab your lure or fish, and work with a slack line.

Choose the fishing lures: Use versatile, easy-to-fish lures. This reduces retying and re-rigging, which means you make more casts in the day and catch more fish because of it. Different subspecies prefer different fishing lures, but more importantly, different situations call for the use of different lures. No matter what kind of fish you want to catch, the most important thing to keep in mind when selecting a lure is why the fish will bite an artificial lure.

  3. Other tips

Your body follows where your head goes: try to keep upright at all times with your head centered over the kayak. Once you must this trick, you will stay comfortably on to of your kayak no matter how much it rolls. I’ve seen people fall in the water simply because they leaned out of the kayak to look around.

Change tactics to target different species before leaving an area. Kitchen carries three to five rod and reel combos for fast change-ups between species.

For comfort, invest in a light paddle. Tether it to the kayak using a leash.

Please always remember to wear your life vest.

Once you have a try, I believe you will fall in love with this attractive activity. As long as you practice it again and again, you will find more tips by yourself, and you will have a sense of achievement at that time.

What Is Sport Fishing?

When it comes to fishing, we generally divide it into 2 parts: the sport fishing and the commercial fishing. We know that commercial fishing means people catch fish and other seafood for commercial profit, there are many people make their living by commercial fishing. Then, what is sport fishing? What do you know about it?

Sport fishing

Sport fishing also called recreational fishing, it is fishing for pleasure or competition. The most common form of sport fishing is done with a fishing rod, a fishing reel, fishing line, fishing hooks and fishing lures. Of course it has many other fishing tackles which we collectively call them the terminal tackles, for example, the sinkers, fishing float and fishing swivels.

It is hard to affirm the early evolution of sport fishing, but we can sure that the sport fishing took a great leap forward after the English Civil War, where a newly found interest in the activity left its mark on the many books and treatises that were written on the subject at the time. British fly-fishing continued to develop in the 19th century, with the emergence of fly fishing clubs, along with the appearance of several books on the subject of fly tying and fly fishing techniques, and this is start of the expansion period of sport fishing, and now, it becomes more and more popular all over the world.

If you want to experience the sport fishing, you should know the common game fish around ushere is a simple list:

  •      Big game fish are bony saltwater fish such as tuna, tarpon, and billfish (sailfish, marlin and swordfish).
  •    In North America, anglers fish also for common snook, redfish, salmon, trout, bass, pike, catfish, walleye and muskellunge. The smallest fish are called panfish, because they can fit in a normal cooking pan. Examples are crappies, perch, rock bass, bluegill and sunfish. Panfish are often hunted by younger anglers.
  •    In the United Kingdom, "game fish" refers to Salmonids (other than grayling) – that is, salmon, trout and char. Other freshwater fish are called coarse fish.
  •    Some popular game fish have been transported worldwide. Rainbow trout, for instance, can now be found nearly anywhere that the climate is appropriate, from their original home on the Pacific Coast of North America to the mountains of southern Africa.

In the past, sport fishers will always kill the fish they catch even they don’t eat them. But with the increase of the environmental protection consciousness of people, increasingly anglers practice catch and release to improve fish populations. Some game fish are also targeted commercially, particularly salmon.

As a popular game which has thousands of fans, sport fishing has it’s own conventions, rules, licensing restrictions and laws that limit the way in which fish may be caught. The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) makes and oversees a set of voluntary guidelines. The local government will help to put these rules in place.

There is no doubt that the sport fishing is an attractive game. And with the development of the technology, I believe the fishing tackles will become more and more advanced, and the sport fishing will become more and more challenging and humanized.
