How to Find the Best Fishing Spot?

 For fishermen, especially the fishing beginners, how to choose a fishing spot is very important, it relates directly to how much fish you can catch. Then, how to find the suitable fishing spot?  Ask a boss of fishing tackles store or someone else? Or search it on the internet? I have to say that these are both good ideas, but have you ever wondered to find such a place by yourself? “Give a person a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a person to fish and you feed her for a lifetime”, you can’t expect people tell you their favorite spots willingly every time, you should try to find your own spot.

Here are some suggestions for you:

1. Open your Google Maps
You can’t drive a car and search the suitable spot everywhere, and it is unrealistic.You can open your Google Map, a quick Google search can usually help you find a good place. Through the map, you can see the terrain and surrounding area of the spot clearly. You can find several spots from the map and write them down.

2. Go to the spot you choose
When you find some spots on the Google Map, the next thing you need do is going to these spots one by one, and choose the best spot. You can only know the terrain and surroundings through the map, but you can’t know whether there have fish or not through it. Some spots may seem very suitable in the map, but you can’t catch any fish there. So, you’d better go to these spots and have a look. Then you may ask:” How to make sure that spot has fish?”
  •  The bubble

 If you want to make sure whether the spot has fish a not, the bubble is an important indicator. It can tell us much information about this spot: the species of fish, the amount of fish, the size of fish and the movement of fish. Different fishes will spit different bubbles, but common point is that the larger the bubbles, the bigger the fish.
  •  The water

 As we say in China-“if the water is too clean, there will be no fish”. When you go to a spot and find the water is very clean, you can give up it and find another one. If you want to fish in the river, the color of water should be light green, light blue or light cyan. And If you want to fish in a pond, the color of water should be white, light brown or light green.
  • The smell of water

Try to smell the water against the water. If the water smells fishy, then this spot must have fish. And there will be a lot of fish when the smell is strong.
  • The water birds

 When you come to a spot, and see the water birds like egrets fly low out over the water, it means the fish in this spot is very active, and you can fish here.

How to Fish in the Deep Sea?

Recently, a deep sea fisherman in Russia has attracted world-wide attention. He has been taking photos of all kinds of strange fish, and sent these pictures to his twitter. Here are some pictures in his twitter:

    After watching these pictures, many people may think that the deep sea fishing is mysterious and exciting. But as long as you know more about sea fishing, you will find it is not distant from us. Today, we will have a brief introduction about deep sea fishing.

1. What should you take?
For all of us, choosing a sunny day and go fishing with friends in the deep sea is really a wonderful trip. But before you go, you should make sure that you carry everything you need. If you the fish you want to catch is different, the equipment you carry will be different too. So, we just discuss the basic things you need.

First, you should bring a set of fishing tackles: fishing rod, fishing reel, fishing line (include extra fishing line), fishing hooks with different size, fishing lures and so on.

Then, you should bring some extra tools: needle nose pliers, line Cutter, knife, rope tape measure, first aid box, sun gear and so on.

 Finally, you should take a heavy coat, a pair of gloves, water bottles, food and snacks. Trust me, it is also necessary when you have a trip in the deep sea.

2. How to fish in the deep sea?
First, you should find a boat. You can find a local charter company, and book the charter several days or several weeks ahead.

There are basically three types of deep-sea fishing that charter boat captains use: Bottom fishing, Trolling and Offshore fishing. No matter which kind of type you choose, the basic steps of fishing is nearly same. Choose a suitable spot, and assemble all your fishing tackles, then cast your line and wait the fish to bite.

But there are some little skills for deep sea fishing:

Watch the signs. If you see birds e.g. Seagulls that are feasting on small bait-type fishes, there are probably larger game-type fish below the surface of the water. Also, look for floating wood or debris. In most cases when you chance upon a large floating wood, you would find a large game fish in the area even encountering dolphin.

The circle hooks. If you want to catch more fish in the deep sea, you’d better use a circle hook.

Fish near a reef. There are many smaller fish that live on the reef, so the large fish go there to feed. This can be a potential gold min.

When fishing for tuna, look out for dolphins Tunas are often stay with dolphins. If you want to fish tunas, you should see whether there have dolphins nearby. You can’t catch the dolphin because they are protected.

How to Fish on the Ice?

Have you ever heard an old legend which called:” Lying Down on the Ice to Fetch Carp for His Stepmother”? This story still spreads abroad among Chinese people.

During the Jin Dynasty, a young boy named Wang Xiang lost his mother to illness. His father took another wife so that the boy would have maternal care. His stepmother, however, was a bad-tempered, evil-natured woman, who took a dislike to her stepson, and often berated him privately. Eventually, she managed to turn Wang Xiang’s father against the boy. Although the stepmother treated Wang Xiang Badly, he still tried his best to look after his stepmother.

One winter it was unusually cold, and the small creek nearby froze solid with ice.  The stepmother was terribly ill, and the doctor told Wang Xiang that the best medicine is the fresh carp. But the river has already been frozen, how to find the fresh carp? Wang Xiang walked to the creek side to see what he could do, but he found that the ice is thick. Finally, an idea came to his mind: He took off his clothes and lay down on the ice, melted the ice by the heat of his body. Finally, the Nature was moved by Wang Xiang’s filial piety, and two carp suddenly leaped up out of the crack in the ice. And Wang Xiang’s stepmother was also moved by his behavior, she changed her attitude towards her stepson, and became a kind and caring person.

The story told us we should be a filial person. But I always thought: what if Wang Xiang knows how to fish on the ice?                                                  


Ice fishing is the practice of catching fish with fishing line and fish hooks or spears through an opening in the ice on a frozen body of water. And here are the main steps of it:

  The preparation before fishing is very important. First, you should get a fishing license. Then, you should check your fishing gears (you need gear to drill your hole, ensure your comfort, and catch your fish). Finally, bring some heavy coats, it is necessary keep warm when fishing. And you can also prepare a pair of ice cleats, it can help you get away from tumbling.

  Step 2
  When you find a suitable spot, what you need to do next is setting up your hole. Using your auger, place it perpendicular to the ice so that the tip is touching the surface. Push the auger down onto the ice and turn it clockwise until the blade begins to cut into the surface. Keep turning until the chunk of ice releases and you see the water below.
  When you search the spot, please make sure that the ice is thick enough, or it will be very dangerous when drilling the hole.

  Step 3
  After drilling a hole, what you need to know is the depth of the water, then you can know how far to sink your line. Then, place the bait at the end of the lure, and put the line into the hole. When the fish bites, reel your line in or lift your line out of the hole, lifting the fish along with it.

What Can We Learn from Fishing?

Fishing is a popular activity with a long history. Believe it or not, many experienced fishermen always say that fishing has changed their life to some extent. Sometimes, we can even learn something from fishing tackles. For example, we should be upright like the fishing rod, and be flexible like fishing line. Then, what else can we learn?

1. Patience
People all know that patience is a virtue. When it comes to fishing, you will find that fishing is not only a virtue, it is a necessary skills, learn to be patient directly relates to how much fish you can catch. As we all know, you can hardly catch the fish without waiting. And it is the same as life, like the old saying goes, ”Haste makes waste ”, your patience can be helpful for you in any time.

2. Insistence
Besides the patience, insistence is another virtue. Many people often complain about catching no fish after several hours’ waiting, and some of them even give up fishing. But we must know, success belongs to the persevering. As long as you insist on fishing (or doing something else), you can always get an ideal result in the end.

3. Getting up earlier
Most of us don’t see the sunrise on a regular basis; there is something uniquely special about seeing the night give way to the first rays of light. The early morning is often a great time to catch fish, and you must have a good rest at the last night. So, fishing can help you develop a healthy habit of life.

4. Problem-Solving
We’ve all heard the saying “give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.” While that expression refers more to the idea of teaching people to fend for themselves rather than rely on others, it does contain a certain level of truth when taken literally.
And fishing is never an exact science; the bait that works wonders one day is useless the next, and the fishing hole that your neighbor swore was packed with fish is a ghost town. Since factors like the weather, the amount of sunlight, water temperature, and more can influence the location of fish and the type of bait that’s most effective, teach children to think about what is making their efforts successful or not, and encourage them to try new ideas to see if they can have better results. Critical thinking and a willingness to try different solutions is vital to effective problem solving, and fishing supplies an opportunity for real world application of those skills.

5.Sense of Accomplishment
Now comes the fun part, catching the fish!  After you’ve put in all your hard work, you get to experience that fuzzy feeling of accomplishment.  You’d be surprised how great it feels to go out and catch a few good fish.
This occurs in your career when you finally get that dream job or promotion you’ve been working so hard to get.
